In times of woe and of despair,
We often look to hope.
Reality we don't accept
Because we cannot cope.
So there we sit awaiting, passive
Watchers wanting life,
Not taking hold of it ourselves.
We sit, the slaves of strife.
While others work and others live,
We're trapped in our own net.
The ways of life and of the living
We all too soon forget.
Assignment: William Blake-like Poem
Open Minds
Godlike breath through open minds
Loosens all of blinding binds,
Frees the soul of weighty fear,
Wakes the man that oils the gears.
They think of beauty, nothing less,
The universe and boundlessness.
Great men of old and of today
Find all their secrets in this way.
These men of science, art, and God
Have always been considered odd,
But they shall live forever on;
Their thoughts are here, their bodies gone.
I Want Someone Who's Kind
I want someone who's kind and who's gentle and sweet,
One who'll sweep me right off of my size seven feet.
I want action, attraction, a long-lasting friend,
One who'll care for me right to the end, very end.
I want someone who'll stay 'til we're long gone and dead,
Who'll be faithful and loyal; it's done not just said.
He'll be real and sincere, helps me out of a jam.
I want someone to love me for just who I am.
