K-PAX

Seen: October 26, 2001 - Evening
Very Brief Synopsis: Psychiatrist Dr. Powell (Jeff Bridges) has a mental patient named Prot (Kevin Spacey) who thinks he's from the planet K-PAX. As Powell tries to get to the root of Prot's mental illness, Prot's convincing story helps in curing the other patients of the mental ward.
Comments: Spacey is incredible. He absolutely shines. The movie was so well done, I didn't know what to believe -- is he or isn't he from K-PAX? It could be argued either way, actually... kind of like "The Lady or the Tiger?". All the same, it was a touching story. I recommend it.

Kate and Leopold

Seen: January 12, 2002 - Matinee
Very Brief Synopsis: Kate's science-loving former boyfriend, while travelling back and forth in time, accidentally brings a duke named Leopold from the 19th century into the present -- perfect opportunity for a May-December romance, eh?
Comments: Hugh Jackman is just great. I've seen him in a couple of other things, and he's actually the main reason I went to see this film. I don't have much to say about Meg Ryan's performance, but I will say that her hairstyle truly bothers me; I'd like to slap her stylist silly. Predictable plot. Complete chick flick. Could have been meatier, especially in the time travelling department (no special effects, not even when the actual travelling happens; what's up with that?) Obvious allusions to themes brought up in Breakfast at Tiffany's, and some historical inaccuracies. Kind of cute, though, and I'd watch Jackman in anything.
