So Honey, How Was Work Today?

So Honey, How Was Work Today?

It’s been ages since I’ve posted anything about my work, so it must seem I don’t work much at all. But, despite my lack of blogging and my endless playing on Farmville, I’m still doing my thing. I think last year I worked on 40-50 print covers, and goodness knows how many e-book covers I did — hundreds, I’m guessing. I’d go insane trying to pick a dozen of them to show here, so I’ll show only my first mass market paperback work.

Up until late last year, I’ve done only trade paperbacks, but I got the opportunity to work on not only one mass market cover but three — actually five by now, with three more on my plate — mass market covers, and here’s a sneak peek; a couple of them are not available in stores just yet:

I’m excited about getting to read the books, too. The debut author has been getting some good buzz.

Right now, this very minute (if it weren’t for blogging), I’m working on a vector illustration for an e-book cover — a bit slow-going because it involves me actually sketching by hand from scratch, with very few references, if any, then scanning and tracing, then coloring the darn thing in Illustrator.

I’ve also started offering my book design services to self-publishing authors using Createspace, Lulu, or Lightning Source — any printer, actually; I’m flexible. So I’ve been working on those, too, and honing my print design skills, not just for artwork but for interior text blocks as well. I’d like to try my hand at some hardcover book design one day, and my guinea pig will probably end up being me, as H.E. has been on me again and again to start doing my children’s books.

Because, you know, I should be SO busy that I never have time for virtual farming, virtual restaurant running, virtual city planning, virtual pack rat collecting, virtual pet care, and all those other virtual simulation games. What, no games? All work and no play? Picture Van Gogh home alone with hands to face and screaming at the thought.

That’s me.
