The Downside of Gift Cards

The Downside of Gift Cards

My frustration knows no bounds. I still have many unpacked boxes in the new place, and in one of them hide my Barnes & Noble and Staples gift cards, both of which H.E. gave to me last year.

They don’t expire or bleed out via dormancy fees like most other gift cards, but considering they are worth about $200-$300 each, I’m a touch concerned about the fact that I can’t seem to find them. I’m 99% certain that I packed them in “a safe place” prior to the move, but that same place is safe even from me.

Yesterday, I wanted to treat myself to some new books—the kind from dead trees, oh murderous me—because most of my books are still packed and I can’t get at them … and because we were actually going to be in the same neighborhood as the beautiful two-story Barnes & Noble at the Bella Terra mall. Boy, did the expletives roll around in my head when I couldn’t find them.

I continue my search, but God help me, the next time I’m given a gift card, I will immediately use it.

At the very least, I’ll never hide them in “a safe place” again.

  1. I can sympathize on both levels:

    1) I moved this summer and there are still things I can’t find. My magnets from my old refrigerator, my overnight bag, two pullovers…..I think there are other stuff too. It’s as if it “disappeared like a fart in the wind”.

    2) I’ve had at least one gift card that was just flat lost. No idea where it went.

    I hope you find it.

    Good Christmas?

    Mine was decent…..

  2. Oh no! That must have been so frustrating. Gee. I wish I would get gift cards 🙁 Man! I don’t even get Chocolates! I mean, what is that all about?

Anyway, hope you find them real soon.

  3. Well … good news. I found them, yay! 🙂 They were in a safe place, of course, already unpacked and on my desk where I couldn’t see them. Naturally, I discovered this after rummaging through many boxes.

Drew, I feel your pain. I’m still searching for things from my very first move. Oh, and next time you get gift cards, put them in your wallet! 🙂 As for my Christmas, it was very understated this year, but except for the fact that I missed the caroling due to a migraine headache, I liked it fine.

Lyn, no chocolates or gift cards?! You know what that means, don’t you? You absolutely must treat yourself to something and go get what you really wanted for Christmas. Heck, that’s what I do. 😉

  4. I’m forever trying to remember safe places where I’ve stashed my goodies. I should just keep them next to the chocolate. I never forget where that is. 😀
