I thought it might be cute to show one of my Loose Id lizard cartoons in progress, so here it is:

This is something I’m working on tonight, though a part of me wants to veg in bed for the rest of the day. It looks flat because I haven’t airbrushed in the shadows and highlights yet; I’ve only put in the color base, and I haven’t put in any background.

Every time H.E. and I go to the movies at Bella Terra, we see a 3D animation of a feline moviegoer named Front Row Joe and his girlfriend who, I’ve just discovered, is named Popcorn Penny. When we see these two characters dressed in their formal best and dancing, H.E. always turns to me and says, “Reminds me of your lizards. I hope they pay you good money for those things.”

But H.E. is always trying to get me on a higher level in my career. If he had his druthers, publishers would no longer have Harry Potter illustrated by Mary GrandPré; they’d turn to me, instead, and pay me twice what they did her.

Ah, H.E. and his pipe dreams. Who needs ambition when I have him for a stage mother?
