My Completed Crochet Projects So Far
While I was crocheting a hooded baby afghan for an expecting friend, Minnie asked to see photos of it when I finished. Well … that was a while back, and I’ve since worked on other things, as I’ve mentioned before.
Today, I got around to taking a picture of the baby afghan, and I decided that while I was at it, I might as well photograph some of my other projects. The big blue and white monstrosity is about four and a half feet wide and maybe six and a half feet long, big enough to cover H.E. from head to toe because that’s how he wanted it.
I had been all set to call the big blanket Surf City Afghan (in honor of the town where we live and because it looks a little bit like surf), in case I wanted to write up the pattern and post it, but H.E. got the notion to call it Norman … because as I was working on it, the huge ball of blue yarn (one pound of worsted weight, for anyone who’s interested) from which I was working looked like the hair of Norman Bates’ mother. So, for a while there, whenever we referred to the blanket, we referred to it as Norman.
Norman got so big that whenever I worked on him in bed, I’d have him all over on top of me. It was really, really hot.
I really should crochet such things in winter.
The keyboard scarf is also my own pattern. Naturally, as I’m working on it, I’m figuring out better ways I could have done it. Oh, well. Maybe I’ll do another version someday.
The only crocheted item not pictured is the black, purple, and teal afghan I made for the cat. Photo taken in my bedroom, hence the creatures.
And for Minnie, a close up of the folded up hooded baby afghan to show the ripple stitches:

Oh April, it’s gorgeous. They are all gorgeous! I loved the patterns and colours you have picked. And I can almost feel the softness of the baby afghan. I’m so glad you took photos of this loot.
I think my most favourite is H.E.’s Norman, though. Probably because of the “blues” and white. 🙂
Unrelated to this post but, OMG GO WATCH STARDUST. (SO great).
I love the black and white scarf. That would be fabulous in some deliciously soft yarn. Mmm.
Minnie, we almost went to see it yesterday, but lunch took so long, we missed the last matinee time. We’re going to see it today, hopefully. Also, I’ve now finished the keyboard scarf and am working on a paddle wheel scarf for you. 🙂
Ann, I was thinking of using a softer, thicker yarn or a larger needle for next time. For this first time on a pattern I was still creating in my head, I went with sport weight and tight stitches, so it’s not as soft as my other projects or as I’d like it. But next time, definitely, different stitches, softer yarn. Everything else I’ve done so far is super soft. 🙂
Holy shite, woman. You are a crochet machine!
I forgot to mention that everything looks amazing. 🙂
Thanks, Nikki! 🙂 Now if only I could knit, lol.
I wish I could knit and crochet in the summer. Fall is coming, though… so I will be getting busy here soon. 🙂
Right now I’m working on a new quilting project. Must remember to post photos, including the finished one I did back in July. 😮
Really love seeing your work. 🙂
I would pay you big bucks to knit a Dr. Who style scarf that’s outrageously long and patterned after the one that one Doc wore. My husband wants one, and that’d be way cool to get him for Christmas.
Nikki, I would soooo love to learn how to quilt. When I’m ready, I’m going to buy myself a sewing machine, and I’m coming to you and Janine for tips!
Ann, I’m only just learning how to knit (still trying to master the stockinette stitch, which is alternating rows of knit and purl, only I can’t get the edges straight), but the Dr. Who Scarf should be uber easy for me to do — it uses the basic garter stitch (every row is knit), which I can do.
So if you have a particular season scarf in mind, take a look at the Dr. Who Scarf site to see what colors are used. If you buy and send me enough yarn to make the scarf, I’ll totally knit it for you. It’ll give me good practice in knitting. Just be sure to buy yarn that is the same weight throughout (all sport or all worsted, preferably sport if we go by the site’s instructions). 😉
I cannot believe there’s a whole website dedicated to that scarf. That is all kinds of awesome.
I’m also not sure I’d be good quilting reference. I really need to learn from a master… be a quilter’s apprentice. Unfortunately, the one brilliant quilter I knew here moved away in July. A friend of mine said she’s go with me to a quilting class, though, so I plan to really learn the right way. (I have a tendency to cut corners so it’s done quicker!)
I know. Isn’t that site wild?
And I have a feeling that by the time I get into quilting, you’ll know plenty enough to know the right way. 🙂
G, I love my hat, or is it called a bonnet? When can I get it? I think I have a shirt that will match that color.
You’ve done very well in knitting. I hope it exercises your other muscles not used in keyboarding. That would be a good balance to prevent carpal tunnel.
I can either send the hats by mail or bring them to our next lunch together, whichever you like. 🙂
