Latest Work, 2007 Week 27

I don’t think I’ll get much done today—it hurts to do anything, let alone sit at the computer. I had a stiff neck all day yesterday, probably from sleeping on it wrong the night before, and it’s worse today, the pain spanning from the top of my head, to the middle of my upper right arm, and to my mid-back. Heck, just glancing down at the keyboard causes pain, and I couldn’t get comfortable while lying down in bed. What the hell kind of stiff neck is this anyway? I’ve never had it this bad before.

Anyway, here’s what I’ve done since the last time I posted about my latest work:

Three e-book covers.

These Sparklers covers were templates for a handful of extremely short stories marketed for the 4th of July holiday.

For the cover of Heaven Sent (which packages the two e-books Heaven and Purgatory in one print book), the two nifty illustrations were provided as one by P. L. Nunn. I knocked out her background, added the sky, and did the layout and typography.

OK. Now to ingest an entire bottle of pain pills…

  1. Thanks, Drew. I’m still feeling a little stiff, and there’s still a knot somewhere on the right side of my upper back. H.E. gave me his weekly massage appointment on Thursday, so his massage therapist was able to get most of the kinks and knots out, but I’m left with a residual. I’m sure it’ll go away in a few days.

  2. I have a leg injury. I think it’s a hamstring and not a knee injury although it’s in a spot where you could think it might be either. It’s on the lower part of my thigh on the back side. I injued it in softball about 4 weeks ago and it just doesn’t seem to be healing well at all.

You seem to have a lot of trouble with pain in your neck….do you think it has anything to do with your long hair that you wear piled on your head everyday? Not sure if wearing it down would actually help? Cutting it shorter would be painful in other ways I’m sure….it might help?

  3. Sorry to hear about your pulled hamstring, Drew. I pulled my hamstring once or twice back in school, and it’s not a nice feeling at all.

As for the neck pain having to do with the hair, I wouldn’t be surprised. But I’ll venture to say that my newly rediscovered hobby of crochet probably didn’t help either, as it means a little bit of bending over close work.

But the hair. Yeah. I’ve got to do something about it.

  4. The leg is bad enough that I have to get up in the night to reapply ice. I’m not sure if it’s helping. Part of the problem is that I need to just shut it down athletically for a few weeks but it’s hard to do that in the middle of summer. I took about 2 weeks off and then started back up doing stuff and it’s still night right….very frustrating.

Your theory about crocheting being the primary reason behind the neck pain makes sense. After all, it’s the new activitiy….you’ve had the hair down to your legs for a couple years now at least….probably 3-4 years really.

But you hint that a change in your hair could be in the offering? Why go shorter now if you don’t think it would help your neck?

I’ve always been curious to see when you do ultimately decide to get a haircut (your first in like 7 or 8 years I guess?) if you will cut it to your hips or if you will go a lot shorter than that…..more like your shoulders or even chin.

  5. I wasn’t really promoting a haircut for you last night. I don’t know if that would help your neck pain at all.

At some point though, you will get a haircut, whether it’s next month or 5-10 years from now…and when you do it will be interesting to see how much you cut initially and then if you go shorter still from that point.

One thing is relatively certain though, once you do go shorter, it will not likely to be this long again.

Do you think you’ve reached the maximum length for your hair? I assume it’s still right around your knees?

  6. You’ve got the haircut urge again, eh? These thoughts always go away for you after a few weeks….but one of these times you might actually go thru with the cut before the urge passes! : )

How much shorter are you thinking?

I’m supposed to play softball tonight. It will be interesting to see if my leg holds up. I’m not sure if it will or not. I’m going to have to be extremely careful.

  7. Again? It’s always there. But the requirement of the photos first is always there, too. So nothing changes.

Hope your game goes well and hamstring gets better!

  8. At least one thing does seem to change….while you wait for the photos your hair gets even longer! Going back in the archives you mentioned a potential haircut way back in 2003. Four years and no haircuts later, your hair has gone from around ‘butt length’ to down near your knees.

Thanks for the wishes on the game. It went fair last night. I still just can’t run at all. I hit the ball okay. My hamstring/leg is pretty sore this morning. I’m supposed to play tennis with this girl tonight that I really like. I shouldn’t play but it’s kind of the only way I’ll get to see her, so I’m going to give it a shot.
