Latest Work, 2007 Week 15
I was hoping to have one more cover to show this week, but it’s still in draft hell these past three or four weeks. The feedback e-mail on it always seems to travel by Pony Express, not just from one end of the country to the other, but from some other galaxy to this one. Fitting, I suppose, since the book is science fiction and all, but still…
So really, the first two covers you see here are the only true new ones. The third, for Leashed, is mostly a redo—jaguar man became panther man … because when people write jaguar/panther on the cover request and have a jaguar in a mock up cover they’ve sent with it, they really mean just panther.
This print cover is also new, though I sent the first draft of it, oh, I don’t know, maybe months and months ago. So it’s really not so new to me. Strangely enough, though, as long as this one took to be fully completed, there hasn’t been much change in my design of it.
This book cover has also spawned sales sheet, postcard, and magazine ad designs, but I’ll be showing only the magazine ad here today. It’s for the Romance Writer’s Report. Next to it is a t-shirt design I created for Terran Realm.
But my favorite project this week, other than the latest Illustration Friday piece, is for a full-page illustration for Tales of the Talisman, specifically for a story called “The Plagiarists,” by David Boop.
As always, feel free to speculate about the story illustrated. I will provide just these clues for your imagination: one of the characters is pre-cognitive; another one of the characters is post-cognitive; and still another character just wants some cheese. To find out the rest, you’ll have to read the story yourself.
Oh, yeah! And I can’t forget this month’s lizards for Idbits, a monthly HTML newsletter. Also my favorite project this week. For some reason, I like my cartoon projects the best—feels like I’m actually doing something worthwhile … and completely original.
This probably should have been my Illustration Friday: Green piece, though.

I’m *swooning* over the cover for Passionate Ink. Everything about that appeals to me.
And superb illustration, too. Love your eye for details.
Would it be possible to get the fonts that you used for the title and author name for Passionate Ink? 🙂
Those would be Old Glory and Americratika. Very patriotic fonts. 🙂
Gorgeous work! I especially loved the Leashed cover. And I’m really looking for to Angela Knight’s Passionate Ink. 😀
Thanks, Emma! 🙂
Hi,
I’m the writer of the story you illustrated and I’m curious the process that went into the drawing. You got time to chat?
Dave
