The Female of the Species

The Female of the Species

The Female of the Species

So here is one of the three illustrations I’m doing for a story called “The Female of the Species,” to be published in Razar Magazine. I’ll be working on illustrations two and three, so bonus points if you can guess the story before I post them.

  1. The way you combine the photos and the flat outlined illustrations doesn’t work very well (I think). The photo elements have to much depth in them and could do with some black lines on the outsides, like in the illustrated parts. That way the illustration would be more one piece, in stead of a selection of different elements.
But then again, what do I know.

I like the strange deformations in the two humans by the way.

  2. That’s a good point about the black lines, but in this case the effect was on purpose. Only the illustrated parts are outlined because the illustrated parts are the focus of the story. Everything else is just background.

Now that I mention that, though, I realize I should have outlined the egg in the third illustration, which I’ve posted in the next entry. I was in a hurry and forgot. My original intention was to illustrate the egg instead of use a photo.
