Giving Thanks
First and foremost, I’m thankful that the show wasn’t ending or spinning off after all. My favorite characters are all still together, and whatever that cliff hanger was—I’m so glad it’s past.
I’m thankful H.E. and I weren’t hurt worse during the accident, and I’m glad his car is back from the shop working and looking great.
The Mac is dead, but I’m thankful I have enough to buy a new one.
I’m thankful for Liquid Silver Books, Loose Id, and really, the entire e-publishing industry, or I wouldn’t have enough to buy a new computer.
I’m thankful that I got to attend Minnie’s wedding and that I got to meet her and her soul mate Alex, Nikki and the entire Hoh family, and the beautiful state of Rhode Island.
I’m thankful that I got to see Janine get married again and that I got to meet the man, the dog, and the house that have finally made her happy and complete.
I’m thankful that I got to see my godmother again and that I got to see Australia and to pet kangaroos, koalas, and pudgy wombats.
I’m thankful for H.E. and his love; it’s because of him I got to make those three trips at all.
Most of all, though, I’m thankful for all the love in my life. I’ve never felt so completely loved and needed, so completely appreciated for my heart, soul, body, and mind, and I’m glad that my presence and touch gives peace and calm.
I’ve recently been likened to a carpet mom. There was an experiment done with monkeys, once upon a time. Orphan monkeys were made to choose between two constructed “mothers”. One mother was made of cold wire mesh, but the life-sustaining milk bottle was attached to it. The other mother had no milk but was made of warm furry carpet. When the orphan monkey was hungry, it would go to the wire mother and quickly partake of the milk. At all other times, however, it remained with the carpet mom for the comfort it gave. Despite who had the milk it needed to survive, the orphan monkey always preferred the more comforting carpet mom.
So I’m thankful that I can be a carpet mom to anyone.

What a nice post. Most all of us have so much to be thankful for and yet it’s sometimes so easy to focus on what you don’t have and what you think you need to make yourself happy. I’m more guilty than most in the ‘if I only had this… I’d be happy’ mindset. I suppose most of that is only human nature though.
And I always often think of my life as if it’s a tv show. It’s an ensemble cast and was more fun during the college years. I don’t think my show would still be airing due to lack of interesting things. But then again, most of my co-workers seem to think that I have the interesting life and do the fun things in the group.
Changing gears, I’ve never heard of the carpet mom bit. It’s interesting.
Also, I saw Stranger than Fiction this weekend. While it was a little slow in places, overall I’d have to give it a thumbs up. I liked the line about the three things people dislike most in their life:
1) their job
2) traffic
3) socks that don’t match
I don’t like to be negative about my job and the traffic where I live isn’t a big factor, but #3 resonates with me big time!
Drew, other people’s lives always seem more interesting — it’s the greener grass thing. 😉
I’m thankful I got to meet you, baby! After all these years!
Love you heaps. Been too tied up with bureaucracy but I miss you. We’ll talk soon… I’m flying back to Bombay next week so let’s talk before that?
*hugs*
Minnie, are you in Bombay now? Is Alex with you, or is he joining up with you later? Where do I send the Christmas cards?
