What Dreams May Come … True

What Dreams May Come … True

It’s been a long time since I attended classes, and yet I still regularly dream about being in school. It’s never the same school or the same teachers. The campuses always look strange and new, and the situation always seems odd or unusual. Last night, I dreamed I was on a math team headed by teacher Mel Gibson, and Mel Gibson was being a jerk.

We were scheduled to go to some tournament between the 8th and the 11th of November, and prior to that, I had plans to be out of town between the 2nd and 7th. But Mel was a flake, and on a complete whim, he decided to extend the tournament trip to start on the 3rd. There was no notice or planning, no asking of his math team members if there’d be any conflict with their own personal schedules.

I was miffed.

I told him quite reasonably that I already had solid plans for those extra days and that I wouldn’t even be in town to attend his early tournament practice sessions. He said, “Change your plans.”

Yeah. Right. Change my flight plans, my hotel reservations, my vacation time, my loved ones’ vacation times. Sure.

We got into a verbal match. He ranted and raved as if I were a cop that just pulled him over, and I wanted so much to slap him.

I have no idea if there is any meaning in such a dream. The only real thing about it was the existence of my travel plans and the dates involved, which ironically were changed today.

Okay, so maybe there was some meaning to it.

But the next time I dream about school, there’d better be a nicer cast and some lottery numbers involved. Or else I’m dropping out.

  1. I think any dream with Mel Gibson in it is now automatically categorized as a nightmare. 😮
