Casey

This is Casey, Janine’s dog. Janine and the vet suspect that Casey is a mix between a German Shepherd and a Sheltie or Collie.

Anyway, I got to spend a lot of time with Casey while in Connecticut for Janine’s wedding, and she is the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. She really made me miss having a dog around. I stayed at Janine’s house the entire time I was there, so I ended up taking Casey out for some of her walks, sometimes with Janine and sometimes on my own.

One time, I even walked her in the middle of the night, after a long day of everyone away getting primped up, married, photographed, and party-hardied. I came back to a quiet house after midnight—while the married couple went to have their wedding night at a bed and breakfast—wrapped my aching or bloody and bandaged feet (which my high-heeled Mary Janes seem to have cut open on the left sole) in socks and comfy shoes, then took Casey on her walk up and down the dark street so she can do her business and be at ease. I swear, my feet felt better after that walk. Casey was just so happy to have me there.

It made me seriously think about having a dog again. For one thing, having a dog around keeps you active and forces you to go outside every now and then, and I live too much indoors, like a vampire in some bat cave.

I don’t think my landlord would go for the idea, though. He was reluctant enough about the cat.

One day, though. One day.
