A Sunset’s Totally Not Worth Death

A Sunset’s Totally Not Worth Death

This is a sunset I shot at the beach today. Is this really worth 1000 words?

I know a picture is worth a thousand words, but I honestly couldn’t translate this sunset into even a paragraph’s worth. Maybe it’s because I live here and I see them often, that even with the variations in the sky, the mist, the waves, the atmosphere, … all sunsets essentially look the same.

What can I say a thousand times, really? Beautiful? Beautiful, I tell you! This sunset is beautiful!

I saw the King Kong movie (I deem that the Broadway version shall be called Ann and the King of Skull Isle), and the way Ann and Kong relate to each other is through beauty. She pounds her heart at his sunset and says, “Beautiful.” He pounds his heart at her sunrise and says … well, actually, he grunts, and she says again, “Beautiful.”

And it was beauty killed the beast.

So I guess the lesson of the story is not to stop and smell the roses, not to stop and skate on ice with a beautiful woman in your hand, not to gawk at sunrises while pilots take off in their planes, not to fall in love with a woman who can make you laugh … because when you declare your love in your typical alpha male way by chasing her in your protective jealousy, the other men in her life will cage you, and then hunt you down when you get away.

That’s the price of loving beauty, and I will dearly pay for this sunset after I climb to the top of the Empire State building.

Or maybe not. Maybe this sunset really isn’t all that beautiful. To qualify, it would have to be worth 1000 words, and 1, 2, 3, … so far it’s only about 300.

Now that’s pathetic, and pathetic never killed anybody.

So I think I’m safe.
