Secret Message #6: That Thing in the Alien Cage

Secret Message #6: That Thing in the Alien Cage

The heart of a woman falls back with the night,
And enters some alien cage in its plight,
And tries to forget it has dreamed of the stars,
While it breaks, breaks, breaks on the sheltering bars.

– Georgia Douglas Johnson (1886-1966)

It’s all a-flutter, yes it is; I guess you could even say it’s topsy turvy. Speaking of which, if (unlike dear Minnie) you haven’t noticed it yet, I’ve added a topsy turvy graphical archives section to the site.

That aside, I bring up two other topics: H.E. and Art. Do I write too much about them? My apologies if I do, but the two of them are like… hmm… how do I explain this? Is there a mathematical equation I could use?

How about:
H.E. + Art = heart

Cheesy, I know. Forgive me. February has been weird to me, and I’ve gotten to the point where I wonder if readers can predict on which days I will post a new entry. There is, after all, a telltale way of knowing when I will publish. Still… if you can guess when I will post in March, I’ll be very impressed.

It’s strange, though. I’ve thought about stopping my use of the comments feature, but I haven’t thought about stopping my weird little monthly schedules, which only shows you how truly compulsive I am. Does anyone care at all when I post?

Never mind. If you’ve read this far, you’re here for the secret message and not my rambling. But then… you’d already know what that message is anyway, and no, there is no extra Easter Egg this month. There will be one next month, I promise… and even prizes in April—the month that is, and not me.

Which leads me to ask:
What would you like to see me give away as prizes?

Please bear in mind that I’m a poor girl, but otherwise anything goes.

  1. I visited early yesterday and found the topsy turvy. Funny thing is that I was about to make a request that you create some links so we could revisit them.

Of course, you being April, you did you better. The running story is good and the art wonderful.

As for as a prize, I would like to menition that it wouldn’t cost you too much to put the winner up for a weekend stay at your place.

[April has cookies (finally), but Warren has ‘recent comments’ and ‘follow-comments-in-this-thread’]

  2. It’s kind of funny how i read a line from your post…and i can fully place the blame on the Tylenol Cold & Flu medicine running rampant though my system (yeah, i’m sick with the flu).

It read "What would you like to see me give away as prizes?"

    Not too funny? Well…

It is when you’re doped up on flu medicine and read it as "Would you like to see me given away as a prize?"

Yeah. Maybe i should go back to sleep…

  3. That would be an nice prize – "April for the Weekend." I doubt that anyone could put up with her for much longer than that.

  5. April, dear, if you think that’s cheesy, you haven’t been reading what I’ve been writing lately. (You’ll become a diabetic if you over-indulge.)
I think it’s perfectly fine to write about H.E. and art– it’s important to you, and, well, this is your blog, isn’t it?

And I’d totally want April for a prize! We could play "Exquisite Corpse" (it’s a drawing game) and H.E. and Noel could look on and make dry, witty comments…it’d be great!

  6. Y? Because you love us. You know you do. Now as for a prizes, if April was the prize, she could change "Aprilgem’s haven on Planet gastro" to Aprilgem’s pimping palace.

But seriously, I like what you did during December and allowing the winner’s to choose a piece of your art work, more personal and fun.

  7. Yay! April for a prize! 😀
Hmm, not sure how H.E. will feel about that, though. 😉

Okay, let’s see… I’d say giving out gift certificates of Amazon.com or Target.com would be a good prize. Most people have wish lists or registeries and they can put the certificate(s) to good use.

Or, even better would be a small artwork by you. Perhaps a caricature of the winner? Yes, I think that’d be splendid and even more valued than any gift cert.

Because that would be a piece of you. 🙂

  8. Yes, last Thursday I looked on in sadness, knowing that your next post wouldn’t be until yesterday… You left us with a doozer though, so well done. I love the new space where you show your previous April/alien toons!! I was going to ask you about that as well… What is it in the aliens that you put yourself into???

  9. Been dropping-in anonymously for a while, but this is my first comment.

Just discovered your pictograms. Was this month’s for me? Now you’ve made me feel bad because I didn’t bring anything for you.

As for prizes, I think a custom designed topsy turvy would be wonderful.

I’d love to commission one for my site, but generally nutritional requirements come before funky artwork.

So I vote for a topsy turvy prize…the poor man’s commissioned masterpiece.

  10. I honestly really enjoy seeing when you post. I like to try and figure it out early. Then see if I’m right. 🙂

I agree with Minnie, I think you should post about what’s important to you. This is your journal. If moldy cheese is important to you, post about it! Thankfully H.E. and your art are much more entertaining than moldy cheese. I rather enjoy your stories about H.E. Very amusing. 🙂

As for a prize, how about a couple of graphics for a website? Or a one of your prints?

  11. April, you are the prize – every post, every piece of art, every word. You are my breath of fresh air.
