I’m Dreaming of a Wet Christmas

I’m Dreaming of a Wet Christmas

I must confess. I didn’t go caroling over the weekend as planned. The hostess needed to reschedule due to an illness in the family, but if nothing else pops up, we’re still on for the next weekend. It’s just as well that it got moved though because the week started out with darkened stormy skies, and today it rained steadily, so steadily that the road that I was on over the weekend is now flooded out.

It doesn’t usually rain at this time of the year in this area. The rain usually waits until January to let loose and wreak all kinds of havoc, and Christmas is typically a crisp, brisk season, where people can go from door to door like normal human beings, drunk and bellowing like whales, or snacking on health food and coffee in between shopping trips for Thigh Masters.

This year, it’s a little bit damp out. Maybe just a tad. The last time it rained this hard (and we have two more storms coming up), million-dollar houses with breathtaking million-dollar views fell down muddy million-dollar hillsides and caused many million-dollar tears. I don’t know. I will never understand why filthy stinking rich people insist on living in houses that stand on worthless crumbling decomposing limestone. But really, that’s okay by me. It’s their money, not mine.

But in the meantime, their houses will be blocking all sea-side roads to keep people from going anywhere important, so I guess we can all look forward to staying home for the holidays and letting it rain, letting it rain, letting it rain.

So how come all those pretty Christmas cards have all that white stuff all over the place, anyway? What is that?

  1. I wish all that white stuff on those cards were on the ground here. When you live in the Northwest, you would expect snow and cold weather and not lots of rain and green grass. But at least there are not million-dollar houses blocking any of the roads I travel. 🙂

  2. Seriously, I thought it was el nino all over again for a minute there. And the streets drain so poorly all over the area. I almost died hydroplaning through a massive puddle. Though when it rains here it’s should be snowing at Big Bear. =D

  3. Yeah, we had a pretty serious downpour last night, i mean *ahem* we had a pretty serious downpour this year.
Last night we had thunder and lightning so close to my place that the window was rattling my blinds.
I damn near fell out of my bed when that happened.

Aaah i love winter. I just wish it would snow…4 feet would be fine by me.

    🙂

  4. Lenny, don’t forget, there are two more storm systems brewing. If you’re crazy enough to surf, the waves are between 20 and 40 feet.

And Saen? You had thunder and lightning?! I totally missed out on that. Where the heck are you, anyway?

  5. I agree with Saen, 4 feet of snow in the valley and add to that about a hundred feet in the mountains would be just perfect. And I guess I will need to look into snow machines 🙂

  6. I’m in Vancouver, BC, Canada
(west coast…we have very similar weather to Seattle)

The weather is actually fairly interesting up here. It’s generally mild…i actually went rollerblading yesterday.
(true, it was still wet and yes, i was slip-slidin’ all over the place ~ still fun though.)
