Streetwise Guy

Since I’m still familiarizing myself with the streets and stores of my new neighborhood, and since he is such the navigator, Human Encyclopedia did the driving tonight. Ever find yourself reading street signs out loud so you can more easily remember them later? Well… I do exactly that sometimes. It works better when you’re alone though; otherwise, people think you’re crazy.

H.E.: As titillating as you find it the other way, that street is actually pronounced Gothard.

April: Nuh-uh. Got Hard Street.

H.E.: Gothard. As in Gotham City.

April: [shakes head] Nope. Got Hard. Got Ham City.

H.E.: [rolls eyes]

April: Funny how there’s a church at the intersection of Got Hard and Warner, isn’t it? Whenever I approach the area, all that runs through my head is “church,” “Got Hard,” and “I tried to Warner.”

[It’s strange, and I realize that, but I now know that intersection like the back of my hand. So you see? It works very well for getting to know a new neighborhood, I tell you. It works!]

H.E.: [rolls his eyes again and continues to drive] Well… your other favorite street is coming up. Bushard.

April: [squeals and claps hands in glee] Bush Hard!

H.E.: [sighs and shakes his head] Yeah. Whatever.

  1. Oh my, the things going through my mind:

"I tried to Warner" to cover up her "Bush Hard" before he "Got Hard" at the church.

  2. Hey, GotHard and Warner — that’s right by where I live. Welcome to the neighborhood!
